Mounting TVs to the wall is something I’ve been doing for a living for a couple of years now. The top two of the many questions that I get asked is which type of plasma tv bracket to go with? And where do you get your mounts?

Types of Plasma TV Brackets
Tilting and Swiveling: This is the most flexible type of mount since it is able to be pointed up/down and it can be turned left and right. A common use for this mount is to put it in one room, but also have the option of facing it towards another room. This type of mount usually extends about 5″ from the wall
Tilting: Tilting mounts are able to turn up/down, but not side to side. This mount is great for people who want to mount the TV up high on the wall and face it down towards the viewing area.
Low Profile: Low profile wall mounts are the best if you are looking to put the TV as close to the wall as possible. It is much like hanging a picture since it can only face straight forward.

The main reason people by plasma or LCD displays is because they want to mount it on the wall. People are dishing out lots of money on their TVs, so they are also wanting to spend a lot on a good mount to ensure that the TV is secured to the wall. Most wall mount manufacturers are taking advantage of the consumers with the mindset that the more they spend on a mount, the more protection their TV has. However, there are some places that don’t hike the prices up so much so you just have to do some searching. The mounts I get are made with the same high quality materials and construction as more expensive brands.

Which Mount is right for you?
Tilting and swiveling plasma TV brackets are usually the best option for most people since it allows them to adjust the viewing angle of the TV if you’re not directly in front of it. You can find sales online that make them just as inexpensive as other types of mounts. To make it easier on you I have provided the link to the place where I get all of my mounts on this site.
The other two types of mounts are Tilting, and Low Profile. Tilting mounts are great if you just need to adjust the vertical angle of the TV (up or down). Low Profile wall mounts are also a popular choice for people who want the TV almost right against the wall. However, the viewing angle cannot be adjusted with this type of mount.
Picking a good location to mount your Plasma TV is going to determine the difficulty of the installation. Exterior walls are usually harder than interior walls since they have more obstructions. If possible, I recommend interior walls for mounting your plasma or LCD TV.
Mount Placement
You will first need to figure out the horizontal placement of the mount on your wall. Once you have a general idea of where you want to install the mount (left/right placement) you will need to check for obstructions behind the wall and make sure there won’t be anything in the way of your in wall cable runs to your AV sources. Use a stud finder to do this and it will make your life easier!
Also in the step above, find the studs as they relate to positioning of your bracket. If you’re mounting a plasma, you’ll want to hit two studs with two anchors bolts on each side, i.e. a total of four anchors.
If you’re mounting an LCD, make sure you’re penetrating into at least one wall-stud (with two anchor bolts, top & bottom).
Note: While it’s acceptable to bear the weight of a small to medium sized LCD onto a single wall stud, you still need to bolt in the opposite side.
These are things to keep in mind when choosing the location of your mount. Help this helps
